This is an interesting Riesling. The 2018 summer was one of the hottest on record in NZ, so the grapes achieved physiological ripeness a little earlier. After harvest, the free-run juice was fermented slowly at cool temperatures to help the wine express the unique characters of the region. At all stages, the wine was handled carefully to help retain a bit of its natural carbon dioxide, which resulted in a small amount of spritzing that adds extra liveliness to the wine.
It presents a beautiful lemon-straw colour, and the bouquet is an alluring potpourri of citrus and green apple, interwoven with spice, perfume, floral notes and a mineral core. The palate is rich and supple, with elegant poise and a textured mouthfeel. A refreshing whip of acidity adds length and ensures the wine’s off-dry finish is harmoniously balanced. A true New Zealand classic.
